Seagate buys LaCie

The all-cash deal is valued at 4.05 euros per share, with Seagate to acquire 64.5 percent of LaCie's outstanding shares from Philippe Spruch, the company's chairman and CEO, as well as his affiliate. The offer from Seagate values LaCie at 146 million euros, or $186 million U.S., including acquired net cash of about 49 million euros, or $65 million U.S., as of March 31, 2012.

The two companies said the acquisition will combine two highly complementary product and technology portfolios, adding LaCie's premium consumer storage solutions and network-attached storage products to Seagate's consumer storage products. Seagate sees the deal accelerating its growth strategy in the consumer storage market, particularly in Europe and Japan, as well as adding engineering and software capabilities.

The thing is, customized coloring jobs from ColorWare has never come cheap, and this is not going to change anytime soon. The entire cost inclusive of customization, of the ew 135 G3 vocal set is $750; while the e-935 with customization is $350.

Onkyo WiFi Speakers

If you’re in the market for a new set of speakers, Onkyo might have something for you in the form of the GX-W100HV, a pair of bookshelf speakers that is more than meets the eye. Yes, if you were expecting a regular pair of speakers, you’ll be in for a surprise as the Onkyo GX-W100HV will sport DLNA support on top of everything else.

The master speaker incorporates 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and will utilize WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) to connect to your router. When the speakers are connected to your router, gadgets and devices that are DLNA capable should be able to find the speakers and connect to them. However if you already have a sound system set up that you particularly like, the Onkyo GX-W100HV can reportedly be incorporated to them via optical and analog inputs.

As far as the speakers’ specs are concerned, they are capable of outputting 15 watts per channel, with each speaker sporting a 12cm A-OMF woofer and a 3cm tweeter that has apparently been tuned for vocals in mind. The speakers are expected to go on sale in Japan come 18th of February for 40,000 Yen (~$520), although no word from Onkyo if they have plans to bring the GX-W100HV into international markets.

Dish is going to over faster than DSL speeds

     In its battle for market share in satellite television, Dish Network is jumping to cross the digital divide by bundling a new broadband satellite Internet service with speeds that are faster than most DSL land-line services. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday, Dish CEO Joe Clayton announced a partnership with ViaSat that will allow the company to offer broadband service with download speeds as fast as 12Mbps and upload speeds of up to 3Mbps. Clayton said that the service would be available as part of Dish service bundles, starting at $79.98 a month.

Powerbalance lawsuit finally comes to a close

     I don't think this would surprise anyone, but PowerBalance—manufacturers of plastic wristbands with hologram stickers on it—have admitted that there's "no credible scientific evidence that supports [their] claims and therefore [they] engaged in misleading conduct.
